Aug. 1904      Edwin Averill died the past week at his home north of the village, in his 89th year.  He was born at Alexander, Genesee Co., NY and came with his parents, Samuel Averill and wife, who had previously come from Rutland, VT to Perrysburg where they remained a year and then took up a farm in Persia which they cleaned from a dense forest.  He has been a contimuous resident here for the long period of 87 yrs.  He married Esther Clark who survives him with several daughters and a large number of grandchildren.  The burial was at Broadway cemetery by his parents and other members of the Averill family who were buried there many years ago.

10..Albert b. 1818 at Catt. Co. NY. and he died there 1818.

11..Lorin b. 1820 at Catt. Co. NY.  His obituary from the Munger Scrapbook-

The first is Sarah b. February 13, 1849 at Persia Catt. Co. NY.  She married Gridley Christy and they had a son and a daughter.  She died Feb. 1896 in Erie PA. buried at Pine Hill Cemetery NY.

I was surprised to find in the 1850 census of Persia Catt. Co. NY,  Sam, Christable their daughter Angelina and also living with them are Eliza, Jeromes wife and their daughter Sarah, but no Jerome.  I knew he was in the Civil War but this is 1850 so where is he?   After some frustrating searching finally in January 2004, I found a Jerome Averil age 21.  The age and spelling aren't quite right but it all fit.  Here he is, on the 23 day of September 1850 listed in a prison census!!  I have tried to get the court records but no one has them.  I have the prison records which state he was sentenced November 4, 1848 for two years and the crime was Grand Larsony.  He was released November 4, 1850 from Auburn Prison Cayuga NY.

Prison Records

During the early 1960's my parents started searching our genealogy.  My Grandfathers response to Dad is "they were all just a bunch of horse theives".  Neither of Dads parents ever gave Dad information of their parents.  After my father died much of their notes and info. dug up through the years was gone.  So the only thing I had to go on is the Book by Clara, a few photos, some memories, information received from Lois Stapfer (another g g grand daughter of Jerome) and the bible from Jeromes parents.  The bible was given to my father by his Aunt Irene.

The second child is John J. b. March 25, 1852 at Lockport NY.  He married Jennie Derby.  He died 1922 she 1907 and they are buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, NY.  Her obituary from the Munger Scrapbook--
Sept...1907  Mrs. Jabez Averill died at her home on Point Peter.  Burial at the Pine Hill last Friday.  She was a daughter of Morgan Derby, born at Hidi 53 years ago.  She has been in poor health for months past.  A daughter, Mrs. McKenzie and a son Harry Averill, survive her.  Mr. and Mrs. Averill were in California a year ago, but the change seemed to do her no good and they returned here to their old home.

3.  Ida E. b. July 3, 1854 at Niagra Co. NY.  Mark Dunkleman introduced me to her great grand daughter, Lois Stapfer.  I am very happy to know her and we have enjoyed finding and sharing information for 6 years.  Ida married twice and has four girls with her first husband.  She died 13 Feb.  1926, buried in Lakeside Cemetery, Erie, PA. with her mother and second husband.

4.  Denton C.  b. September 10, 1856 at Lockport NY.  He married Rachel McMillen, he died 1929 and she died 1966.  Both are buried in Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA.
