Cornplanters Cemetery
(on Pennsylvania New York border)

Submitted by Liane Freedman

Moved from Onoville NY during construction of the Kinzua Dam in 1964
This cemetery is co-located with the Riverview cemetery & the Corydon cemetery. The driveway to the cemeteriea starts in New York, but it curves back into the PA line. The three cemeteries sit on the banks overlooking the Alleghany river and is a beautiful sight.
The cemetery is all enclosed with a chain-link fence and well-cared for.

The original cemetery was located on the Kinzua River between Corydon, PA, to the west, and Kinzua, PA to the east. It was flooded by the Allegheny Reservoir when Kinzua Dam was built in 1964.The map of the graves and names of the original cemetery were given to me by George Plesko, retiree Corps of Engineers (Real Estate Division) in Pittsburgh.
The earliest known burial was 1836 and the latest 1930.

New Cornplanter Cemetery is in Corydon PA. Burials taken to new cemetery each have a number on the stone. (See photos online at
